Optometry

Description

Optometry is the study of vision and the visual system. It encompasses the study of measuring, assessing and correcting vision (for example, by prescribing lenses), as well as eye health, vision problems, eyes diseases and other abnormalities.

At UNSW, professional training (including clinical optometry) is integrated with the study of the fundamentals of visual and ocular science.

Studying Optometry at UNSW

Optometry may be studied at the undergraduate level through the dual degree Bachelor of Optometry (Honours) Bachelor of Science, offered through the Faculty of Science. Optometry is also offered at a postgraduate level through Graduate Diploma, Graduate Certificate, PhD (Research) and Masters (Research or Coursework) degree programs.

For students who do not wish to practise as clinical optometrists but are interested in a laboratory based career, a Vision Science major is also available within the Bachelor of Science program, 3970 and Bachelor of Advanced Science (Honours) program, 3962.
