Description

Ecology of marine, estuarine and freshwater systems, and population /community dynamics of these systems. This course introduces the varied life histories of marine organisms, and focuses on aspects of an organisms life history that may make it vulnerable to anthropogenic activities. The course then draws on this background to demonstrate how to best target conservation measures both to conserve individual species and maintain diverse marine communities. Special topics considered include chemical ecology and ecotoxicology, fish ecology, plant/herbivore ecology, and marine protected areas.

Notes:
1) Field excursions are compulsory and will involve additional expense to the individual student;
2) Students will be required to attend Sydney Institute of Marine Science for field training during the mid-semester break;
3) This course is restricted to students undertaking the Master of Conservation Biology program. Enrolment of students studying other programs is subject to availability and approval by the Course Authority.
