Description A review of innovative approaches to the planning, design and management of the 'sustainable city', with an emphasis on techniques which seek to maintain and/or improve air quality, water quality and biodiversity. Topics include principles of urban ecology and sustainable development, the ecological 'footprint' of the metropolis, water cycle management, urban design and transportation issues, urban forestry, parks systems and greenways, use of tools for assessment/evaluation. The course will be based on lectures, seminars and case studies.
*This course is compulsory for some postgraduate FBE programs. A number of places have been reserved for these students. The number of places available (as shown in the Class Timetable) does not necessarily reflect whether places are available for students completing this program as an elective. |
