What affects the liveability, productivity, governance and sustainability of a 21st century city. Traditional and emergent ways of understanding a city's spatial structure, urban form and function are studied. The historical drivers of change, current urban theories and the future megatrends in sociocultural structures, political functioning, technological change, sustainable design and global economics are discussed and applied through class exercises and case-studies.
