Program Description

The one-year Master of Education degree is designed for qualified teachers and other educational professionals who wish to study education at an advanced level. Commonwealth Supported Places (previously HECS) are available for local candidates.

The program is suitable for teachers, trainers in industry and commerce, adult educators and other professionals, but does not provide a qualification in pre-service education.

The program offers nine areas of specialisation: Educational Studies, Assessment and Evaluation, Educational Psychology, Gifted Education, Higher Education, Teacher Professional Learning, Special Education, TESOL and Visual Arts Education.

Demonstrate an advanced understanding of the field of education as it relates to their specialist area of study, and the ability to synthesize and apply disciplinary principles and practices to new or complex environments.

Elective Courses in Education

ARTS5503 Academic Writing (6 UOC)
This course can be taken as an additional course for students wishing to develop their academic writing skills. It will not count towards the program requirements. Click here for further details about the course.

Entry Requirements

A recognised Bachelor degree and a postgraduate teaching qualification (e.g. Graduate Diploma of Education or Master of Teaching)

OR

A four year pre-service teacher education qualification, including professional experience, equivalent to the qualifications required for Graduate teacher status in NSW.

Academic Rules

To qualify for the award of the degree, a student must:
  1. Enrol in the Master of Education
  2. Complete the 48 UOC of advanced disciplinary courses

Advanced Standing

Students seeking advanced standing must submit documentary evidence of courses completed at the time of initial enrolment. Faculty will then determine the number of units of credit to be granted. Advanced standing will not be granted for courses completed more than six years previously. The maximum advanced standing for a Masters is 18 UOC (equivalent to three courses), a Graduate Diploma is 12 UOC (equivalent to two courses) and a Graduate Certificate is 6 UOC (equivalent to one course).
